**What architectural key features should be considered when building
or renovating a cultural centre? Where do you start? What needs to be taken into consideration? What is important in contact with the architect and the building developer? What is required for a space to be suitable for cultural activities?**

Background information on behalf of Buenaventura for this Working Group
Buenaventura in [Castelfranco Veneto] (30.000 inh.), Northern Italy, has existed for 5 years and currently experiences a phase of transition. We completely finances ourself without any public support. The Buenaventura committee thinks no is time to reconsider. Now we are situated in a rented private building. Within two years we will have to renew our rental contract (and for sure the owner will raise the actual 1.800 rental fee). Thus we are thinking about a new space and all different options.
When Buenaventura started we did not have enough knowledge about architectural features important when choosing a venue. At the time it was not easy at all to find a free space to rent. Now the situation is different. Due to the economical crisis in Italy in general there are now a lot of free spaces to rent. They are also cheaper to buy than they used to be. Now we have got enough experience to realise that it is very important to have a well structured space for your cultural centre; a place where the spaces can easily be changed for different purposes and activities, i.e. multifunctional. We are very interested in creative, smart solutions that can be realised within a limited budget.
We would like to continue with our current activities but we'll move out in two years. What is the suitable building for a cultural centre like ours? That is: one big venue for concerts/conferences/meetings, a theatre/cinema, small rooms for meetings, a bar, lodgings for volunteers and offices.
There are several possible public spaces in Castelfranco that have not been used for years and that might be a good location for a cultural centre. There is a public owned building (an old "agraria" agricultural school, that we call ExAgraria) that is free and that has been in our mind for some time... there is also another free public building (ex-sala contrattazioni). We would like not to concentrate our future planning and the discussion within this working group on this or that building (we do not know, now, if we will rent/buy a private place for the future Buenaventura or if we'll try to find a publicly owned building) but on architectural key features that are important in general.
