The Centre for British Studies at Berlin's Humboldt University (http://www2.hu-berlin.de/gbz/index2.html>/gbz/staff/eisenb.htm)

annually selects twenty-five candidates for its acclaimed interdisciplinary Master in British Studies programme. This 1½ year postgraduate degree course starts every year in October and is open to graduates from any academic subject. Applicants need to have a good first degree in any subject and a very good knowledge of English.

On the M.B.S. course, students from different nations and with different academic backgrounds study British history, culture and literature, as well as law, politics, business and economy. Following an introductory semester, students in their second semester may choose between two options, ‘Economy, Law, Politics' and ‘Culture, Media and Cultural Management'. The two semesters in Berlin are followed by a three-month internship with a company, public institution or other suitable organisation within the United Kingdom. The Centre for British Studies helps students to arrange their internship and has a large number of partners in the UK. During the final three months, students complete a Master Thesis.

The teaching staff consists of academics and practitioners from Germany and the United Kingdom. All classes are conducted in English. The M.B.S. was reaccredited in 2008 with excellent results. The Centre's graduates have turned out to be flexible, success-oriented, young adults who combine academic and business skills with a high level of intercultural competence.
The Centre for British Studies does not charge tuition fees.

Applications should be made using our application form and sent to Prof. Dr. Christiane Eisenberg, Großbritannien-Zentrum, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Mohrenstraße 60, 10117 Berlin, Germany by 30 April 2009.

Applicants who are in need of a scholarship are strongly advised to apply to institutions such as the German Academic Exchange Service (http://www.daad.de), the Alfred Toepfer Stiftung (http://www.toepfer-fvs.de/) and to search for other opportunities via directories such as ELFI (http://www.elfi.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/studservicefrset.html). Please note that the German Academic Exchange Service operates with a different deadline, usually November of the preceding year for enrolment in October.
