Research Assistant in Applied Linguistics (two posts)

Grade 6: Salary £25,623 - £30,594 p.a.

We invite applications to the two posts of Research Assistant in Applied Linguistics to join Dr Victoria Murphy and Professor Ernesto Macaro on a research project into the influence of second language instruction on first language literacy in primary school children. The positions are fixed-term contracts for 12 months (funded by The Leverhulme Trust). We hope the successful candidates are able to take up post as soon as possible. The posts will be located at the Department of Education, Oxford.

The posts are intended for applicants who have had previous experience of carrying out a social science research project, independently as part of a doctoral study, and/or as a team member for a funded research project. Candidates without a doctorate but with good research experience will be considered for the posts. One post is for a speaker of French, the other is for a speaker of Italian (see below).

The persons appointed should:

* Ideally be very near to completing or have already completed a doctorate in the field of second language learning.
* Be familiar with both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
* Be fluent in French (non-native speakers of French will be considered) OR be fluent in Italian (non-native speakers of Italian will be considered).
* Have some language teaching experience, preferably in the primary school, in a UK context.
* Have a teaching qualification.
* Be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
