3-year Fees-only Scholarship

The English Department at the University of Warwick wishes to offer a fees-only doctoral studentship on any aspect of the Perdita Project website: http://www.warwick.ac.uk/english/perdita/html/.

The Perdita Project was funded by the AHRC 1999-2005 to find and catalogue early modern manuscripts authored or compiled by women. Some of the manuscripts, such as Hester Pulter's poetry, or Elizabeth Isham's autobiography, have been worked on in depth: but there are many of the 500-strong catalogue which have not. The money for this fees-only doctorate has been earned by the Perdita team for their work at Warwick on the catalogue which has been purchased by Adam Matthew.

The studentship will cover fees at Home/EU level (£3,390 in 09/10) for the period of registration of a PhD in the department (3 years); the funded student will be expected to maintain the Perdita database (training will be given).

To be considered, applicants must have been offered a place on the PhD program in the Dept of English to study some aspect of early modern women's manuscript writing. Interested students should then apply directly to Dr. Elizabeth Clarke (elizabeth.clarke@warwick.ac.uk), submitting a CV, a research proposal and two academic references. A first-class degree in English and an MA, preferably on some aspect of early modern studies, are required.

Proposals are invited either on individual women and their work or on an aspect of early modern women's authorship which requires study across a range of women's manuscripts.
