PhD Linguistic / Cultural Studies (Altro)
Every year the University of Salford offers a number of Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs) for suitably qualified candidates wishing to study for a PhD. Applications are now invited for scholarships based in the School of Languages starting in October 2010. The scholarships are worth £13,290 per annum per year over three years and are open to UK/EU students.
Subject areas include:
Linguistics
Pragmatics, Semantics, Phonology, Morphology, Sociolinguistics, Psycholinguistics, First and Second Language Acquisition , Arabic linguistics, Documentation of endangered Semitic languages, Applied linguistics (teaching English as a second language)
Translation and Interpreting
Translation and Interpreting Studies, Interpreting, Literary translation, Screen translation, Genre-specific translation studies, Sociology of translation, Psychology of translation, Pedagogy of translation /interpreting, Contrastive linguistics and translation, Terminology and translation
Intercultural Studies
Literary studies with reference to: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian and Spanish, French politics and contemporary history, Geo-politics, Comparative social politics
Graduate Teaching Assistantships offer students the opportunity to study for a PhD while undertaking teaching duties in areas usually related to their PhD research. Successful candidates will work under the direction of an academic staff member on a range of teaching activities, up to 180 hours over the academic year (based on an average of six hour per week).
Please note there are TWO closing dates:
1. The closing date for GTA applications is 5 February 2010.
2. Outstanding candidates will also put forward for external funding. Please note the earlier deadline for applicants wishing to be considered for ESRC/AHRC funding: 8 January 2010.
