The Projects
6 GTAs are available in the following areas (Full and part-time):
* East Asian Studies (projects on Japan are particularly welcome)
* Italian
* Linguistics (preference will be given to applicants for Psycholinguistics)
* Polish (Part-time) - Please note different closing date below.
* Russian
* Translation & Intercultural Studies
The successful applicant will be required to undertake a PhD programme within the School and teach up to 3 hours within the discipline area. The nature of the teaching will depend on the candidate's skills and qualifications.
Please note, the Part-time GTA in Polish Studies is co-funded by the Polish Ministry of Education. There are specific requirements in relation to the eligibility of applicants. For further information, please contact Dr. Ewa Ochman (ewa.ochman@manchester.ac.uk). The closing date for the Polish GTA is Wednesday 31 March 2010.
Qualifications: Successful completion of a Masters degree, with an element of research training, is a prerequisite for entry to a PhD programme. Student whose first language is not English require an overall IELTS score of 7.0 with 7.0 in the writing element of the test or a TOEFL score of 600 (paper-based test), 250 (computer-based test) or 100 (internet-based test).
Funding: The GTA award covers (i) the payment of fees directly to the University: for Home/EU students fees will be paid in full, for International students fees will be paid in part (at Home/EU rate), or in full, budget permitting. [In 2010-11 academic session, Home/EU fees are £3,500 per annum, International fees are £11,300 per annum] and (ii) a bursary of £6,500 per annum paid in quarterly instalments by bank transfer (by arrangement with the Student Services Centre), usually October, January, April and July.
