PhD bursary (Altro)
The Department of Humanities is delighted to invite applications for 15 University-funded Studentships. Successful candidates will be awarded a full fee waiver (home and EU students only) and £5,000 per annum bursary for three years (all students, including international), to commence in September 2010.
Schools of study include the following areas in English:
Creative Writing
* Two Creative Writing Studentships are available.
English Literature
* Early Modern Appropriations: Responses to the Renaissance Literary Canon from the Seventeenth Century to the Present Day
* Republicanism in the Early Modern Period: Reading, Writing and Practice
* Fashioning the Body Politic: Medical and Political Discourses of the Body in the Eighteenth Century
* Female Authors and the Romantic-period Literary Salon
* Trains, Planes and Automobiles: Modern Literature and New Technologies of Transport (1880-1950)
* Contemporary Sexualities / Contemporary Places: Theories and Representations of Sexualities and Place, 1990s to the Present
Linguistics
* World Englishes / English as an International
* Variability and Redundancy in Linguistic Representation
* Learning Words from Context in L2
* Cognitive Linguistics
Further Particulars and Applying: We are looking to recruit candidates of the highest quality, with the capability of submitting excellent theses within the standard PHD duration of 3 years. You will need to demonstrate a strong performance in your first degree (probably a first) as well as a good MA qualification. We will, however, consider applicants straight from undergraduate degrees where there is evidence of exceptional academic ability. Prospective candidates from overseas should contact us concerning entry requirements.
