The graduate programme is based on a practice theoretical perspective and pursues the question of how actors are made subjects in different contexts, make themselves subjects and are recognized as such: by their embodied habitus, language, visualisations and artefacts. Along with doing subjects the process of doing culture comes into view: Which contribution do actors make to the reproduction, shaping and modification of the social worlds in which their (self-)making takes place during the process of their subjectivation> For the theoretical-empirical studies two observation perspectives are central: a) history and b) body, space and materiality. Thus, on the one hand the question of the genesis of subjects is freed from its partial focus on the modern era and modernity. On the other hand, instead of focussing on intentional actors, language and meaning, the observable physical moves of social practices come to the fore: How are actors involved in these 'moves and how do they develop a specific subjectivity in this very process>
The subject areas represented in the graduate school are History, German Studies, Art History, Philosophy, Sport Science / Sociology, and Protestant Theology and Religious Education.
