The Faculty of Humanities of the University of Amsterdam provides education and conducts research with a strongly international profile in a large number of disciplines in the field of language and culture. Assistant professor Learnability
Full time (38 hours per week)

The successful candidate will be a linguist who takes an active interest into the theme of learnability based on a multidisciplinary approach of first and second language acquisition and language developmental disorders in combination with language change, language diversity or language typology. His field of research also includes cognitive science in a broad sense in collaboration with psychologists and/or educationists
Tasks
- teaching and developing teaching activities both as part of the programmes Linguistics, Dutch and/or Cognitive Sciences (40% of the tasks)
- (co-)supervising Bachelor's and Master's theses
- independently conducting research in the area mentioned, resulting in contributions to leading international publications (60% of the tasks)
- co-supervising PhD candidates
- making a contribution to raising contract and indirect funding
Requirements
- relevant PhD degree
- experience in research and excellent research skills, evidenced by publications in renowned international professional journals / book form
- a multidisciplinary background in order to be able to participate in multiple areas of the Faculty's curriculum
- teaching experience at the university level and demonstrable didactic abilities and / or training, evidence by an educational portfolio
- experience with digital and audio-visual equipment; affinity with ICT in academic education
- team spirit and organisational experience and skills
- thorough knowledge of Dutch and English; non-native Dutch speakers must achieve fluency in Dutch within two years
Appointment
The appointment will be in the Department of Language and Literature on a temporary basis for a period of no more than five years.
