Project Description:
Music video is regarded as an ultimate postmodern genre - it condenses and translates various cultural influences, making them understandable for different types of audiences. We are looking for a candidate who will identify, and conduct a detailed critical analysis of, strategies that have been used to effect successful cultural translations within specified circumstances. Case studies will constitute a crucial part of the investigation and will focus on music videos made by artists from continental Europe that have been successful internationally. The intention is to identify the key factors underpinning the success of the most effective strategies identified within the study and the relative importance of these. The project will investigate also the potential for using parts or the whole of successful strategies effectively in the production of new music videos within and beyond the original case study cultural context to generate new successful outcomes.
Applicants should have, or expect to receive a minimum of UK 2:1 honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area.
