PhD studentship Philosophy (Altro)
*PhD Studentships in Philosophy are available at the University of
Manchester*
The University of Manchester Department of Philosophy invites applications
from students wishing to pursue postgraduate research in philosophy
(September 2017 entry). Funding is available for either +3 (3 years of
PhD), or 1+3 (1 year of MA followed by 3 years of PhD).
*Philosophy at Manchester*
Philosophy at Manchester, located within the School of Social Science, has
particular research strengths in Aesthetics, Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy
of Language, Metaphysics, Environmental Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion,
Metaethics, and History of Analytic Philosophy. We are home to the
Manchester Mind Group and the Manchester Philosophy of Language Group. We
currently host the AHRC funded project, The Age of Metaphysical Revolution,
and have recently been home to projects on Co-Operation & Equality, Emotion
& Social Cognition, Biodiversity, Ontology, and Semantics. We are also
closely associated with the Manchester Centre for Political Theory
(MANCEPT).
*AHRC Funding*
The University of Manchester is a member of the Northwest Consortium
Doctoral Training Partnership ( http://www.nwcdtp.ac.uk/ ), which is
offering up to 40 PhD studentships this year. These studentships pay both
fees and a maintenance grant, plus provide access to a Research Training
Support Grant. AHRC funding is available to Home and EU students only.
Successful applicants may be upgraded to a President's Doctoral Scholar
Award, which pays an additional £1000 maintenance per year.
Applications for both +3 and 1+3 studentships are welcome.
*School of Social Science Funding*
We expect to offer a number of School of Social Science +3 Studentships
which are funded to the same level as AHRC studentships. One or more of
these studentships may be upgraded to a President's Doctoral Scholar Award.
SoSS Studentships are open to Home, EU, and Overseas students.
*Applicants*
In the first instance, applicants should contact either a potential
supervisor or Joel Smith (PhD Director), to discuss their proposed research
project and to gain advice in putting together a successful application.
The deadline for all funding applications is 20 January 2017.
