Background information on behalf of Buenaventura for this Working Group
Buenaventura in Castelfranco Veneto (30.000 inh.), Northern Italy, has existed for 5 years and currently experiences a phase of transition. We are completely self-financed and do not receive any public support.
The dilemma for Buenaventura is linked to the question of territory and public space. Since they need to leave their current location within 2 years, they need to find a new building. The easiest way for them is actually to take a bank loan and BUY an estate. The more difficult way is to negotiate and persuade the authorities of the necessity of Buenaventura in Castelfranco. The centre´s activities is for the community and is also involving the community and therefore this should be supported by the municipality. The municipality owns several buildings in the city that are empty and not in use. They are locked to the public. Should Buenaventura take up the fight since they have a commitment to the community to pave way for the possibiltiy to use public buildings?
